SAM Encoder Tutorial -

Configuring the SAM Encoder

  • In SAM, go to Desktop B

  • In the encoder window - click on the '+' button

  • Select your preferred streaming codec plugin - for Shoutcast streaming, we recommend either the MP3 Normal or aacPlus codec (if available)

  • Press OK

  • A new window will open

  • Select your desired bitrate from the drop down menu called 'format' (all the mono settings are displayed first, followed by stereo settings - make sure you select the correct bitrate and sample settings).  if in doubt, please email us for advice.

  • On "General Options" - we recommend you ensure that both 'Auto start encoder after' and 'Auto reconnect encoder after' are enabled (i.e. ticked)

  • Now select the tab marked "Server details"

  • Under "Server Port" - enter the server port number as provided to you by Mouse to Mouse when you signed up to a streaming campaign.

  • Under "Server IP" - enter the server IP address as provided to you by Mouse to Mouse when you signed up to a streaming campaign.

  • Under "password" - enter the server broadcast password as provided to you by Mouse to Mouse when you signed up to a streaming campaign.

  • Under station details - remember to enter all the required details for your station (this will show up on Shoutcast's station directory) -
    1) Station name
    2) Select a genre that best fits your station
    3) remember to enter your station's web address
    4) don't worry about AIM, ICQ or IRC channel unless you specifically want to communicate with your listeners via these separate programmes.
    5) Leave all other settings as they are...i.e. do not alter.

  • Press OK

Once you have completed the above info, your Encoder should attempt to connect to your Shoutcast server (normally within 5 seconds). If you see errors here, double-check all the fields in the encoder for typos. Most common reasons for encoder errors are:

  • Incorrectly typed password

  • Incorrectly typed IP address

  • Incorrect port

  • No Description or Genre - if 'Make station public is ticked'

  • Software-based firewalls are interfering
