Method 2 - External Equipment
To quickly access the recording mixer, go to "Start
-> Run" and type...
sndvol32.exe /r
...in the box, before clicking OK. The windows mixer will
launch and you will see a series of sliders for each audio
input device on your PC.
Fully external equipment including external CD players and a
mixer. For this setup, you need to make sure that the mixer's
"Line Out" is connected to your PC's "Line
In" (not "Microphone").
If you can't see any of the above mentioned sliders, you will
need to check if Windows is actually meant to be displaying
them. To find this out, click "Options" on
the menu bar, and then select "Properties"
from the menu that appears.
In the properties window, make sure that either of the above
mentioned sliders (in this case "Line In") is
checked, and click OK.
With this kind of setup you can easily overload the sound
channel, causing sound distortion. Start with the "Line
In" recording slider right to the bottom (minimum)
and then slowly bring it up until the sound level is about
right.
