Method 1 - PC Based
A microphone plugged into your PC, and Windows based audio
software (see below for some great free software packages) to
play your music. For this setup, it is essential that you
select the correct recording device in the Windows mixer.
To quickly access the recording mixer, go to "Start
-> Run" and type...
sndvol32.exe /r
...in the box, before clicking OK. The windows mixer will
launch and you will see a series of sliders for each audio
input device on your PC.
Make sure that "Stereo Mixer" is selected to
record everything you hear through your PC, including your
microphone and your audio software. On some PC setups, this
slider may be titled "What U Hear" or "Stereo
Mix". On rare occasions, it may be titled "Recording
Master" - for this kind of setup, you may need to
make sure that your Microphone and Wave sliders on the
playback mixer, are un-muted.
If you can't see any of the above mentioned sliders, you will
need to check if Windows is actually meant to be displaying
them. To find this out, click "Options" on
the menu bar, and then select "Properties"
from the menu that appears.
In the properties window, make sure that either of the above
mentioned sliders (in this case "Stereo Mixer") is
checked, and click OK.
